Donors Guide to the Giving Account

The minimum grant amount is $50. Grants can be made in increments of $50 over the minimum – or in increments of $18, as this figure has cultural significance for some donors.

You can ask the Gift Fund to recommend how the charity should use the grant: where it’s needed most or for a special purpose, such as toward an Annual Fund or to support a Capital Campaign.

You can also choose the timing of the grant: as soon as possible, for a specific future date, or scheduled on a recurring basis.

When you recommend grants online, you may be able to expedite the grant process by:

• Searching for new organizations to support and selecting from the search results
• Choosing one of the pre-filled special purposes when you recommend how the charity should use the grant

Whenever possible, please provide a contact name and telephone number at the nonprofit organization in case we need to contact them.

Grants to charities are accompanied by a letter requesting that the charity acknowledge the grant. You can specify how you would like the grant to be acknowledged in the letter:

• To you, using your name and address
• To your Giving Account name only
• To a third party, as specified by you
• You can remain anonymous

The Gift Fund performs due diligence on grants and may contact you, the charity, or both, for further information

Additional due diligence is often required if you make a grant recommendation to a “supporting organization.”

Some grants cannot be made according to Gift Fund policies. The Gift Fund makes grants only when the funds will be used exclusively for charitable purposes.
